With the nights becoming longer and the temperature becoming colder, one can often feel stuck — struggling to find time to wind down and enjoy a night in. Students often find themselves overworked, stressed, and craving a few moments to sit at home and not think about all the things on their to-do list. There’s a certain type of nostalgia that thrives off making a warm drink and watching an old Halloween movie in late October. The holidays are coming up, the world around us is bracing for the cold so we might as well settle in and try to remember the way we enjoyed it while it was still new. The new lies within the little things now. Like walking through the door and seeing your cat after a long day at work. Or cranking up the heat for the first time of the season. Even putting the kettle on for a nice cup of chamomile tea — these little things, though experienced before, often contain a small twist unlike the last time. The life you surround yourself with, the world around you that you thrive off of is an easy way to remind yourself that there will always be something new waiting just around the corner. The loop of a GIF is an endless cycle, one that I tried playing with here. The mundane tasks of everyday life often feel repetitive, like you’re stuck in a loop of lifelessness. The first GIF outside is dark and visually cold. From then on, the GIFs become warmer and warmer to insight a cozy effect into the narrative. The further from the growing cold outside the softer the lighting becomes. I wanted to stay simplistic with the actions in each scene, emphasizing the loop of the GIF rather than the length of the visual. This story serves as a reminder to give yourself a break when life begins speeding up and allow yourself comfort within the changing seasons of life.
