One notable beauty of nature is its ability to contrast itself.
With the seasons, we see greens turn to oranges and reds — nature shedding its life to prepare for the next chapter. That middle stage when the remains of both periods of life greet each other is a perfect example of how nature’s properties can often create stark contrasts against itself. What captivates me most from Andy Goldsworthy’s work is how the scenes he creates are full of contrasting elements — extending beyond only color and light. He immerses himself in discovering new ways that nature can contradict itself. This creative angle inspired me to go out and capture the current state the seasons are changing in Boone. I sought the greatest examples of this ‘clash of seasons’ for this project while keeping Andy Goldsworthy’s work in mind. Rather than seeking more coherent ‘statues’, I decided to let nature take its course and capture the most naturally occurring contrasting photos as possible.
